DED releases Sept and Oct 2013 state jobs report

Nov 19, 2013 -- 1:50pm

Missouri’s unemployment rate fell sharply in both September and October.  According to data released by the Missouri Department of Economic Development (DED), the jobless rate fell to 6.9 percent in September and then again in October to 6.5 percent, the lowest unemployment rate for the state since September 2008. This is the 50th consecutive month that Missouri’s rate was lower than the national unemployment rate.  September saw employment growth in the trade, transportation and utilities sector, where it was up by 3,300 jobs, and in professional, scientific and technical services, which had an increase of 2,800. In October, the professional, scientific and technical services sector continued to see growth with an additional 1,700 jobs, followed by private educational services and retail trade.  The report combined data for both September and October as a result of the partial federal shutdown.
