The mother and step-grandmother of a newborn taken from a hospital and then returned have been arrested. Police are now looking for a third woman. Kennett police report that 28-year-old Amber Trammell and 47-year-old Laura Stone of Paragould were arrested. Stone is Trammell's stepmother. Police are currently searching for another suspect, 49-year-old Melissa Howard, also of Paragould. Kennett police Lt. Tim Trowbridge says the baby was taken around 4 a.m. today/Wednesday from the Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center. The baby was born around 2:30 a.m. The mother, Trammell, is accused of facilitating the abduction with the help of Stone and Howard. Someone allegedly held the security doors of the OB unit open preventing the security device on the baby's ankle from activating the door lock. Officers searched for the child and made contact with Stone over a cell phone. She returned the newborn around 7:30 a.m. and was arrested. Trammell was arrested after being released from the hospital around 9 a.m.
They are being charged with child endangerment. Trowbridge says the baby was being transferred to a newborn care unit outside the Kennett area.
