Fraud alert from Poplar Bluff police

Jul 24, 2013 -- 7:06am

On 07-23-13 Officers with the Poplar Bluff Police Department received complaints from citizens who received text messages which encouraged them to call Direct Express (a social security benefits card company) at a specific phone number.  When the victims called this number, they were asked to provide their benefit card number, their date of birth, and their social security number.

Direct Express customer service assured the victims their company did (and would not) not contact them for this information.

Anyone who believes they have fallen victim to this scam is encouraged to contact Direct Express immediately.  If they have suffered a financial loss, they should contact their local law enforcement agency to file a complaint.
