TODAY'S GENIUS AWARD GOES TO . . . . . . .
Tony Rodriguez, a grocery store owner in San Benito, Texas, who denied health violations of insect contamination on TV, until a live roach crawled out on camera. Rodriguez Groceries scored 34 demerits on a health inspection report and prompted a visit from a local TV station. Rodriguez told reporters he never saw evidence of insect contamination and even invited the film crew to check out his kitchen, which he called "clean." A roach crawled out from behind kitchen equipment and up the wall just seconds into the tour. "There's a roach right there," the reporter said while pointing to it. Rodriguez reportedly took his hand and killed the roach which then fell into the sink. The tour ended shortly after that.

AND THEN THERE'S .....
A pair of Florida teens, who apparently didn't read our previous reports about burglars leaving their cell phones at crime scenes. The teens were in the process of burglarizing a home, but quickly fled, leaving behind a cell phone. When the home owner gave the phone to investigators they called the speed dial number for "Mom" and spoke with one of the teen's mothers. She helped lead them to make the arrests.

OR HOW 'BOUT .....
Susan Becker, 43, who bought a BB gun and then drove her two teen-aged children and one other teen around to shoot at parked cars. Becker was described by her neighbor as "A very all-American typical mom." The neighbor said, "I just can't say enough nice things about her because she's just such a nice person." That "all-American typical mom" is now facing several charges, including endangering the welfare of a child.

OKAY, ONE MORE .....
Dennis Avery, 48, who tried to sell a painting he allegedly stole to an antique shop where the theft victim had originally bought it. The antique store owner remembered selling the painting and contacted the purchaser to inquire why the painting had shown up back at the store. The owner said it had been stolen and police were notified. A police sting was arranged and Avery showed up again with the painting and was arrested.
