Cape Girardeau Central High School orchestras opened their first concert in the multimillion dollar Richard D. Kinder Performance Hall Tuesday evening. The freshman and high school orchestras performed their annual Winter Music Concert in the Broadway-style theater, complete with orchestra pits and state-of-the art lighting and acoustical systems. A 1-million dollar donation from 1962 Cape Central graduate Richard Kinder and his wife Nancy allowed the school to add a balcony, increasing the seating capacity to 1,000. The choir will perform at 7pm on Tuesday of next week, followed by the band's concert next Thursday, also at 7 p.m. Each performance also will feature a "student matinee" to give each musical group the opportunity to perform for their peers during school hours.
