The Democratic committee will hold a nomination meeting this weekend in Poplar Bluff to choose a candidate to run in a June 4th special election for the 8th Congressional District. The three possible nominees whose names have been released by committee members or the candidates themselves include Barry Aycock, a Parma businessman and farmer; state Rep. Linda Black, who represents the 117th House district that covers St. Francois County; and Todd Mahn, a De Soto businessman who briefly ran as a Democrat in the 8th district last summer. Cape County Democratic Committee Chairman Mike Masterson tells KZIM-KSIM their group has chosen to back Aycock for his business and agriculture experience and the 8th District Committee meeting will be at 4pm on Sunday, January 27th in Poplar Bluff. At that time, they will hear from the candidates and make their choice to nominate for the election. U.S. Representative JoAnn Emerson’s last day in office was Tuesday, she resigned to take the position of president and CEO of the National Rural Electric Cooperative.
