Veterans Day marks the release of a new anthology called “Proud to be: Writing by American Warriors” through the Southeast Missouri State University Press. The book includes submissions from four local veterans and is a compilation of essays, stories, poems, and photos from 61 current military personnel nationwide. Southeast Press publisher Susan Swartwout tells KZIM KSIM these powerful stories give you a sense of history and war firsthand. Swartwout says the project is a joint effort with the Missouri Humanities Council, who encouraged these heroes to write creatively in veterans hospitals as a means of self-expression. Future volumes are planned in this series. You can get your copy in time for Veterans Day at the Southeast Bookstore or Barnes and Noble Booksellers.
