The Scott County Sheriff’s Department is participating in the American Medicine Chest Challenge this weekend in an effort to get unwanted drugs off the streets. You can drop off any unused medications Saturday from 10 until 2 PM at the sheriff’s office on South New Madrid Street. Police are also urging you to use the weekend to take inventory of all of your prescription and over the counter medicines, take your medication as prescribed and talk to your kids about prescription drug abuse. Scott County detective Branden Caid tells KZIM KSIM they want to help get these drugs out of the hands of kids. Caid says their office alone has collected about 100 pounds of unwanted drugs just in the last three months through their anonymous drop box in the lobby. More than 40 people die every day from overdoses involving narcotic pain relievers.
