The League of Women Voters is holding a voter registration drive and a forum for candidates


The League of Women Voters of Southeast Missouri is holding voter registration throughout Cape Girardeau in preparation for the April 6 municipal elections. Wednesday is the deadline to register. Contested elections in Cape Girardeau include mayor, city council members for wards 1 and 2 and the Cape Girardeau School Board. Voters will also decide the outcome of a $40 million bond issue for the Cape Girardeau School District. The bond issue would fund a new elementary school to replace Franklin Elementary School, security and building upgrades district-wide, and an event stadium and auditorium at the high school. Registration will be from 7:30 am to 3 pm through Wednesday at the Central High School library. From 11 am to noon and 2:30 to 3:30 pm today at Blanchard Elementary School and Wednesday at Alma Schrader Elementary School. Registration is also available at the Cape Girardeau Public Library during business hours, 9 am to 9 pm. The League of Women Voters will also host a candidate forum at the Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center at 7 pm, March 16th. KZIM KSIM’s Faune Riggin will be your moderator.
