An age old hunting form is returning to the area!

Trapping was common in the old days… now you can learn at a 2-day workshop through the Department of Conservation. Outdoor Skills Specialist Dee Dee Dockins says this program is being held at the Emerson Visitor’s Center at Lake Wappapello the 12th and 13th. If you are 14 or older get a trapping permit and come see what trapping is all about. She says trapping season is in full swing! KZIM KSIM asked Dockins what indigenous animals are being trapped. She said from rabbits to beaver, mink and more.. many fur bearers are trapped... and not just predators like coyotes. This is a hands on introductory workshop. You will be setting and checking traps with the pros! This is a valuable tool of controlling overpopulation of animals that is highly regulated. You will learn ethics and equipment needs. Call 290-5730 by Wednesday to sign up. There must be a minimum of 10 registrations for this workshop to take place.
