A Poplar Bluff woman’s manslaughter case goes to trial next summer
A Poplar Bluff woman who has pled not guilty to involuntary manslaughter in Ripley County will go to trial this summer in nearby Carter County. On July 5th, 25-year-old Josh Burson was ejected, struck part of a boat and died from massive internal chest and abdominal trauma. 11-year-old Jerry Moat fell out of the boat and drowned. The boat operator who allegedly caused the accident, 27-year-old Radeena Proffer, is charged with two counts of Class-B felony involuntary manslaughter, assault, and child endangerment for contributing to the deaths of Burson and Moat. Police contend Proffer was legally intoxicated and operated the boat in a careless and imprudent manner. The case was moved to Carter County on a change of venue. Judge David Evans this week set a jury trial to run June 24th and 25th in Van Buren.
