The job Corps in Stoddard County aids local projects

Over 200 students at the Mingo Job Corps in Stoddard County recently banned together to complete several service projects in Southeast Missouri as part of “National Job Corps Day.” The Corps has provided training and education for people 16-to-24-years-old for 45 years. The local chapter split up to complete projects that helped the Red Cross, highway clean-up, Lake Wappapello, and local parks. Mingo center director Sam Cooper tells KZIM KSIM it’s part of their mission to be an integral part of the communities surrounding Puxico. Cooper says in return for their service, the students learn trades in such areas as bricklaying or heavy-equipment operation for a future career. The Mingo center has a capacity to house up to 224 students in their residence halls. They are always recruiting new members.
