A Bootheel man charged with striking a 2-year-old girl

A Pemiscot County woman is being held without bond for child endangerment after her daughter died last week, allegedly at the hand of her boyfriend. Deputies responded to the home September 30th in response to a child not breathing. The girl was flown by air ambulance to a hospital in Memphis, where she died Thursday afternoon. The mother originally told authorities that she and her daughter were involved in an ATV wreck. Officials learned that story was false and the mother's boyfriend had struck the child in the face with his fist. 23-year-old Matthew Taylor was originally charged with assault in the 1st-degree. But the prosecutor will amend that to 2nd-degree murder. Taylor remains jailed on a 200-thousand-dollar bond and has a court date on the 15th. 21-year-old Joanie Fowler turned herself into police Saturday on an endangering the welfare of a child charge. An autopsy Sunday revealed 2-year-old Lillian Fowler died of head trauma.
