The Farm Bureau awards Perryville a Tour of Missouri prize
As the 2009 Tour of Missouri bike race was moving through communities in early September, judges with the Missouri Farm Bureau were gauging the enthusiasm of each town. As a result, the Best Host City Award went to Chillicothe, who hosted Stage-6 and the Best Route City Award was given to Perryville, along the Stage 2 route from Sainte Genevieve to Cape. Farm Bureau spokesman Estil Fretwell tells KZIM KSIM these two exemplified the best spirit during the week-long race. Fretwell says each winner will receive 5-thousand-dollars from the Farm Bureau. In addition, Perryville, Viburnum, Belle, and Savannah will each get 1-thousand-dollars for being the daily Best Route City winners. The funds are earmarked for community betterment programs such as bike trails, parks, and playground equipment. The Farm Bureau was a Gold Sponsor of the 3rd annual Tour.
