The prosecutor will not seek the death penalty in a Sainte Gen murder

Prosecutors won’t pursue the death penalty in the murder of Korean War veteran John Shaw. Sainte Genevieve County Prosecuting Attorney Timothy Inman said in a hearing this week they won’t seek lethal injection in the prosecution of 46-year-old Ronald Wright of Farmington. He is charged with first-degree murder, first-degree burglary and armed criminal action in connection with the October 16th beating death of Shaw. Wright could be sentenced up to life in prison on each of the charges. During a hearing Tuesday, a trial was scheduled for June 22nd, 2010, before Circuit Court Judge Kenneth Pratte in Sainte Genevieve. The murder occurred at Shaw’s home off Route D in southern Ste. Genevieve County. Shaw died of blunt force trauma and police allege Wright beat him to death with a sledgehammer. He has since confessed to the crime.
