One injured and one dead in a Mack truck crash yesterday morning…
A Tennessee man is dead after colliding with a Mack dump truck yesterday just before 10am. Highway Patrol reports indicate 23-year old Nathan Belste of Fayette, MO was northbound on Interstate 57 – 7 miles north of Charleston when his dump truck suffered a mechanical defect and crossed the centerline. This sent the dump truck head on into a Jeep driven by 36-year old Robert Downey of Collierville, Tennessee. Belste was airlifted to St. Francis Medical Center with serious injuries. Both men WERE wearing seatbelts but the impact was too much for Downey. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Mississippi County Coroner Terry Parker. He is fatality number 37 for 2009 in Troop E’s reporting area.
