A local teen faces up to 25 years for an illegal burn
A Carter County teenager faces up to 25 years in federal prison for property damage to a National Park. 19-year-old Jason Phelps of Grandin pled guilty Tuesday in U-S District Court in Caper to one felony count of setting fire to a building owned by the U-S. In March, Phelps and another man were staying at Float Camp in Ripley County. That night, Phelps set fire to a bathroom in the Park, completely destroying the structure. He initially denied committing the crime, but later aided police in describing where he set the fire. Phelps now faces up to 25 years and a fine at sentencing September 11th.
