Cape officials get closer to welcoming world-class bicyclists to Cape

In a little more than 75 days from now, over 120 world class bicyclists from 22 countries will ride through Cape Girardeau as part of the 2009 Tour of Missouri race. Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder visited Cape Monday to unveil a Tour Host City road sign on South Main Street. Similar signs will be placed at the city limits of each of 11 host cities this summer. The race begins September 7th and will roll through Cape the afternoon of the 8th as part of a road race from Sainte Genevieve. Kinder tells KZIM KSIM this will be a free event for the public to enjoy. Kinder says they’re also hopeful this will become an economic boon to local economies. Over the first two years of the race, over 802-thousand spectators lined the streets. It ends September 13th in Kansas City. You can follow the race at www-dot-tourofmissouri-dot-com.
